An investment that lasts a lifetime
As a non-profit, Assumption Convent views fees as a long-term investment. We prioritise quality staff, small classes, and a values-driven environment to shape confident, ethical future leaders.

A financial perspective from the bursar at Assumption Convent School
As the Bursar at Assumption Convent School, I am often asked a thoughtful and understandable question: “Why go to an independent school when there are more affordable options available?”
It is a fair question. Education is a significant financial commitment for any family. From my perspective, however, the value lies not only in the immediate offering, but in the long-term impact on a child’s life.
Independent education as a long-term investment
Education is one of the most important investments a parent makes. At Assumption Convent, we believe that the quality of a child’s schooling influences far more than her academic results. It shapes her confidence, character, leadership and sense of purpose.
In a world that is increasingly complex and competitive, an environment that promotes academic excellence, discipline, critical thinking and strong moral foundations provides a steady and meaningful foundation for the future. This is what we strive to offer each day.
Understanding the financial reality
There is sometimes a perception that independent schools are financially abundant institutions. In reality, Assumption Convent is a registered Non-Profit Organisation. Our objective each year is simple and responsible: to manage our resources carefully and to break even.
We do not receive government subsidies. Unlike public schools that benefit from state funding, we rely entirely on school fees, partnerships and fundraising initiatives. This model allows us to maintain our independence, but it also requires careful financial stewardship and long-term planning.
Where school fees are directed
Transparency is important. The majority of school fee income is allocated to salaries. This reflects our commitment to employing qualified, experienced educators and support staff who deliver the quality of education our families expect.
The remainder covers essential operating costs: maintaining and improving facilities, investing in educational resources, supporting co-curricular activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
A focus on quality and individual attention
Assumption Convent offers relatively small class sizes, enabling personal attention and meaningful academic support. Our teachers know their learners well and work closely with families to nurture development across academic, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions.
We are proud of our academic outcomes, but equally proud of the confident and principled young women who leave our school prepared to contribute positively to society.
Faith and values
Our Catholic ethos remains central to our identity. The values we promote are integrated into daily school life, shaping how our girls lead, serve and engage with the world around them.
A considered decision
Choosing a school is both a financial and emotional decision. We recognise the responsibility families carry when making that choice. Our role, from a financial perspective, is to ensure that every rand entrusted to us is used wisely and responsibly in support of high-quality, values-driven education.
We invite families to visit the school, meet our staff and experience the Assumption community firsthand. Because education is not simply an expense. It is an investment in a young woman’s future.
