GRADE 12 RETREAT  - BUILDING CHARACTER AND TEAM SPIRIT

Yesterday the Matrics spend the day at Bosco Youth Centre for their annual retreat. It was a wonderful day - one of prayer, learning, praying and fun. The girls were encouraged to find out more about who they are, be positive, ask God for help and aim for maturity in their decision making. They attended a reconciliation service to remind them to look at where they have let themselves and the Lord down and to ask for help and forgiveness. They also spend the afternoon doing fun team building activities. A truly worthwhile and meaning retreat.

  • Brittany Denisson (2017 matric) whose father passed away.
  • Bianca Strydom – new learnership position at Assumption whose aunt was tragically killed.

We welcome the following staff to our high school:

OUR 2018 MATRIC RESULTS

We congratulate all our Matrics of 2018. Your self-discipline, commitment and hard work has been richly rewarded. Thank you too, to your parents and families for their support and encouragement. Last but not least, our thanks go to our very diligent, able and caring teaching and support staff. It is gratifying that these superb results have been achieved within the context of a holistic education. Central to this has been the inculcation of immutable values and life skills. Whilst we are proud of what our 2018 Matrics have achieved in academics, on the sports field and on stage; it is exciting to know that this is just the beginning. The best is yet to come. We look forward to following and celebrating the future success of the class of 2018 in their tertiary studies, in their chosen careers and in their personal pursuits. We encourage them to strive to make our world a safer, kinder and happier place. Above all, we wish them happy, purposeful and fulfilling lives.

SPORT

SWIMMING GALA

On Thursday 17 January Assumptions’ A and B swimming squads took part in the first gala of the year at Parktown.
The girls performed admirably. Everyone swam their hearts out in both teams. There were some pleasant surprises, some outstanding performances and some gutsy performances. I think the results are proof that the camps do work and one could see it in some of the longer races where our fitness allowed us to come from behind to win.

Well done to Miss Pullen and the swimmers for getting together so early in the year.

ROWING

Early on the 4th of December, the Assumption rowing crew started their journey down to Port Alfred for the 2018 Schools Boat Race. The girls were determined to do their school proud on the Kowie River for the first time in 8 years. We would like to extend a massive thank to our sponsors Ster Kinekor Pops, Nutristart and all those who made donations in order to assist in making the tour what it was.  Throughout the week, spirits were high and the girls did their Assumption name proud. Gabriella and Grace were placed in a spares crew and thus both them and the Assumption first quad had the privelage of experiencing the course in all its forms.  On Friday, with an incomong tide, the crews participated in heads racing in order to determine final placements. The first quad rowed against the tide of the 4km course in 16.45.31 minutes, whilst the spares crew completed it in 17.26.52 minutes.  The Assumption quad was thus placed in the D final against Somerset College and the spares crew were placed in a final against 2 other spares crews. On Saturday morning, with a low and outgoing tide, the finals commenced. Gabriella and Grace's spares crew placed 2nd in their final with a time of 13.55.83 minutes. The Assumption first quad placed 1st in their final, defeating Somerset with a time of 15.00.30 minutes.

Thus Assumption finished 7th overall out of 15 crews and are excited to increase their placing given the opportunity next year.

Well done to the girls, enjoy your holiday, you deserve it. And thank you to the amazing coach Koko for assisting the girls in achieving their best.
