RELIGION
PRAYER FOR PREPARATION TO STUDY
Lord, I know you are with me and love me.
Give me peace of mind as I prepare for this time of study.
Help me to focus on my books and notes,
keep me from all distractions so that I will make the best use
of this time that is available to me.
Give me insight that I might understand what I am studying ,
and help me to remember it when the time comes.
Above all, I thank you for the ability to be able to study
and for the many gifts and talents you have given me.
Help me always to use them in such a way
that they honour you and do justice to myself. Amen
WHY DO WE PRAY?
Prayer is talking to God. When we pray, we open our hearts to our Father in Heaven. When we pray, we come to Him and tell Him everything in our hearts. God Himself asks us to pray. The Apostle Paul expressed this when he told the Christians at Ephesus, “ Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests…” (Ephesians 6:8)
Prayer is powerful and can change your life.

CONDOLENCES
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms Franks who has lost her father.

GRADE 000 OPENING IN 2019

We are excited to announce that Assumption Convent School will be opening a Grade 000 in January next year. Our theme is ‘Learn to play, play to learn.’ The programme has been carefully crafted to ensure that the children (girls and boys from the age of 3 years) learn through play in a safe, caring, Christian environment. The curriculum is innovative and world class and will give the children an excellent foundation. The fees are very competitive and include aftercare.
Places are limited and to avoid disappointment, please apply as soon as possible. Contact marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za or 011 616 5053 for more info.

With this being the last function of the year, the PTA would like to order stock as accurately as possible.

SPORT
SPORTS AWARDS

On Monday the 5th of November we held our sports awards and matric farewell. It was lovely having the parents and girls sat together in the Convent Hall to celebrate the past sporting year and to show appreciation for our matrics for their service and contributions to the school. The idea is that everyone who played sport in the year, attends this function, whether receiving an award or not. To those girls who were there merely to support and celebrate, well done!! We appreciate all of our coaches for the time and effort that they have put in. Thank you to the parents for your sacrifices and to our sports girls for doing the hard yards and going out there to do your best for your school. It really is a celebration of the best Assumption has to offer. The talent and leadership quality is there and we do our best to nurture and guide it.

ROWING
Wemmer Sprints – Saturday 13 October – Junior Regatta - Juniors row 1km and Seniors row 2km’s.
KES regatta – Saturday 20 October – Junior & Senior Regatta
The weather over the last two weekends, has not been kind to the rowers. They have had to battle blustering winds, rain and hyacinth on the water, but our rowers never gave up, they pushed through (the hyacinth), determined to complete their races. At the Wemmer Junior regatta, our coaches withdrew the girls from the last races, in order to preserve their dignity (crews were tipping) and our boats. Due to lightening, the KES regatta was ‘called off’, at around 14:30, so some of the crews did not get to row.

KELLY BYRNE - MATRIC 2014
I have a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and I am currently in my penultimate year of my LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Assumption Convent School gave me the confidence and values I needed to pursue my dreams. Assumption was like a second home to me and I was surrounded by a great support system of teachers and friends. The teachers were always dedicated to us as students, by always providing us with the tools and help we needed for our academics. At Assumption Convent I learnt the value of faith, independence and hard work in all areas of life. At Assumption I enjoyed the diversity and participation in many extra-curricular activities that made me the individual I am today. I have many special memories at Assumption that I will treasure forever, and I hope to see my own daughter attend Assumption one day too.
