ASSUMPTION DAY 2018

Please contact Mrs Dunn on 011 616 5053 or admin@assumptionconvent.co.za to RSVP.
RELIGION

The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These fruits are wonderful to have and the Spirit wants to give them to us. God wants us to try to be good and have the fruits of the spirit in us. We can try to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control but the Spirit will give us the gifts he wants us to have. It's hard to do it on our own and so we need the Spirit to help us with each of these things.

TERM 2 PRIMARY SCHOOL REPORTS
Grade 4 -Grade 7 mid-year reports will be distributed on Monday 9 July 2018. The Foundation Phase girls (Grade 00 to Grade 3) will take their second term report home on Friday 3 August 2018.
GRADE 00 TO GRADE 7 PARENT POP-IN DAY
This term we look forward to Parent Pop-In Day on Thursday 12 July 2018.
This is opportunity for your daughter to present her classwork and activities to you and for you to informally meet with her class teacher or with a specific subject teacher. No appointments are necessary and all Grade 00 to Grade 7 parents are encouraged to ‘pop in’ in the morning between 07H00 and 08H30 or later in the day between 14h00 and 16h00. All teachers will be available during these times and refreshments will be served in the canteen.
The Parent Pop-In Day is not an opportunity to formally discuss your daughter’s progress and so where necessary an invitation will be sent to arrange a meeting with a teacher or team of teachers to meet parents at a specific time. These more formal meetings will take place over the next two weeks.

ROBOTICS

Ms Faulha, myself, Haleigh and Ashleigh Knipe attended a robotics and coding workshop in Midrand during the midterm break. We used MakerBlock mBot robots.
The girls learnt how to write blockley code on a computer and then used the code to program the mBot robot. We all learnt a lot about robotics as well as having fun using the tablet apps. We were introduced to new robotic products that were coming into the country for schools to use.
LEGO

Katie Hyde also attended a robotics workshop called Youth Engineering where they used LEGO with special motors and engines to build cars and other robotic items. She enjoyed learning about the different pieces available and how they are used in the robotics field.

ALUMNI

Alumni, we want to hear from you..
We will be running a profile post and testimonial of a past pupil every week in our newsletter as well as Facebook and Twitter so please send us your info.
Our alumni serve a very important role within our community and our school.
We would like to know what our former pupils go on to do after they leave Assumption Convent School. Where our Alumni are, what they are doing, who they’ve become, and how Assumption Convent School helped prepare them for university, work and life.
The Alumni community is a fantastic network group where memories are shared and where you can reconnect with old friends.
Please share a few memories of what Assumption Convent meant to you (200 words or less). Please also e-mail a recent photo of yourself.
This year we will have a section dedicated to our Alumni in our annual school magazine.
Please send photos and share your news with us via email. Please send us updated contact details, especially email addresses, name changes etc.
Please send all correspondence to: marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Our Alumna this week is Kirsten Whitlock
KIRSTEN WHITLOCK - MATRIC 2013

Reflecting on my 5 years at Assumption Convent, I am struck by the compassion and care of my teachers, fellow students and staff members. Assumption Convent nurtured those qualities in me. I can say with confidence that this contributed to my decision to study Medicine, a profession that requires compassion and care, especially in South Africa’s resource-constrained health care institutions. I am now a 5th year medical student at WITS. I enjoyed a balance of friendship, sport and academics while at Assumption.
