High school chess players as well as pupils who want to learn the game have the opportunity to attend intensive chess training between 4 and 6 December. International chess master Mr Richard Mbedza will be coaching themes like tactics, strategy, and principles of attack and defense. Coach Mbedza is a well-known chess master who played in the Chess Olympiad 2012 held in Istanbul.  Play will take place between 08h45 and 12h00. Monday’s session costs R95 while Tuesday and Wednesday costs R170 for both (pizza included every day).  Places are limited. Interested pupils to confirm with Mr Lauf and pay by Wednesday 29th November.

We are delighted to introduce the exciting world of Highland and Irish Dancing to Assumption Convent School.
I attach a flyer and short video clip for the renown Shaw-Butler Studio for Highland and Irish Dancing. We have invited The Shaw Butler Studio to establish a new dancing school at Assumption Convent. This will be open to children from both Assumption Convent and other schools. Should you be interested in your daughter taking up this wonderful activity then kindly complete the attached flyer, (with no obligation) and email this to swalsh@assumptionconvent.co.za.  Alternatively, please leave the completed flyer at our school reception. Dates and times to be finalised. We will be in touch!

PRIZE-GIVING

GRADE EIGHT TO ELEVEN ACADEMIC AWARDS CEREMONY 2017

The annual prize giving ceremony for Gr 8 to 11 was held on Thursday 9 November. Our guest of honour was Ms Asnath Mahapa, who is the first African female airline pilot. Ms Mahapa inspired all of our girls to believe in their dreams and to work hard to make them come true, as she has done.  We also thank Mrs Wittstock, Board of Governor Chair, for her encouraging words on the year’s achievements and for her welcome presence. It is with sadness that we note that it is Mrs Wittstock’s last prize giving at Assumption Convent in her capacity as Chairperson of the Board of Governors. We wish her well and hope to see her at future Assumption occasions.

Our pupils are congratulated on their fine achievements, which are listed below. Unfortunately, we do not have space for all of the certificate winners, but they are also congratulated on their excellent achievements.
