Assumption Convent Primary School

Welcome to Assumption Convent Primary School, a Catholic school in Johannesburg. The primary school runs from Grade 1 through to Grade 7. The warm and nurturing start that the girls receive in the pre-primay school, ensure they enter the primary school well-equipped to deal with the more formal style of learning.

Where great futures, have a great start

To measure the greatness of a school, some would count the pupils. At Assumption Convent School we prefer to make the pupils count. There are fewer than 600 girls in total and classes rarely exceed twenty-five, which enables individual needs to be met and nurtured. Our committed and loyal staff offer a variety of teaching styles in an encouraging and child-cantered environment, which allows each girl to discover and develop her unique strengths.

In addition to the rigorous academic study and varied sporting and cultural activities on offer – we are a Catholic Girls School. This ensures a solid grounding in Christian values, enabling all our girls to develop and grow spiritually. The school is an associate member of the Catholic Schools Board, an IEB school and a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa. It follows the three-term year.

The school’s motto “Fully Alive” (John 10:10) encapsulates our Catholic and holistic approach: we strive to help each pupil discover her unique strengths and so reach her full potential. A key advantage of Assumption Convent is that we are a girls-only school. Girls and boys develop at different rates, and ignoring this can compromise teaching and learning. The difference between boys and girls is particularly pronounced in the early stage of the primary school.

At Assumption Convent you will experience what all families love about our school – a family atmosphere, exceptional interest in each individual pupil and uncompromising academic excellence. Give your child a great future with a great start at Assumption Convent Primary School.
