GOLF DAY 2021

Dear Assumption Parents

We are very excited to get the ball rolling with our PTA Golf Day 2021.

We will be hosting the event at Glendower golf club this year on 5 November 2021. We are extremely excited about this as our golf day could not happen in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic and we would really like to make this year's day a big success. Please share this event advert with family and friends we would be very grateful. Booking forms are available from jgoosen@assumptionconvent.co.za and marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za. Booking forms are also uploaded on our school App.

Hole sponsorships are available for R1500 per hole. For this, you will be able to set up a stall on the day, we will still get more detail from the course on what is allowed to be handed out. You will also get your name on our sponsor board that is displayed in the school hall for the next year.

We are also in need of prize donations, any prizes are welcome, some ideas are: small kitchen appliances, beauty products, gift vouchers and DIY tools. All prizes, no matter how big or small will be appreciated.

We need everyone’s help in making this Golf Day a success.

Hope to see you on the course.

RELIGIOUS HERITAGE

This Friday 24 September, South Africa celebrates Heritage Day; what can we learn from Scripture about heritage?

In Genesis 48, we see Abraham’s grandson, Jacob, handing his heritage in God by blessing his son Joseph and his grandsons. Jacob had not yet received the fulfilment of God’s promises, but he blessed them, believing that God would keep His word through them. In that act of faith, we see Jacob imparting to his son and grandsons the most important thing he could have given them, namely, faith in the promises of God. From this episode we can learn that the most important thing we can give to our children is a Godly Heritage.
We can give a godly heritage in the following ways:

* Showing spiritual concern not only for our children, but also for our grandchildren.
* Recounting to our children and grandchildren our own experiences with God.
* Sharing and picturing to our children and grandchildren our hope for their future in the Lord.

We should feel blessed for the gift of children and grandchildren, and it is an even greater blessing to be a part of their spiritual journey.

Happy Heritage Day!

ATHLETICS - 16 SEPTEMBER

On Thursday 16 September the ACS Athletics Squad took part in our first athletics meet in nearly 2 years.  We ran against St Andrews, Kingsmead and St Mary's. There were no places or points taken for this meet but times were taken for our girls.  This meet had everything, tough conditions, first time athletes, seasoned campaigners, wobbles and falls, wins and losses, courage and determination.
Well done to all of our girls who participated whole heartedly.

ATHLETICS - 22 SEPTEMBER

On Wednesday 22 September ACS took part in our second athletics meet at the Boksburg Stadium. We co-hosted the event with St Andrews, competing against them, Jeppe and St Dominic's.
Once again there was immense excitement. Many of our girls ran their hearts out from start to finish.
It is a time of discovery for our athletes especially having been out of the sports scene for so long due to Covid. They are testing their limits and finding out what they can do well and what they need to work on.

The results will be posted next week. Well done girls and coach Goeieman.

Next Week we are at Boksburg Stadium again and should be back by 17:45

INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS

PRIMARY SCHOOL RELIGION

HERITAGE

Alice Childress, an American playwright, novelist, and actress, once wrote that like snowflakes, the human pattern is never cast twice. We are uncommonly and marvelously intricate in thought and action.
In one of my lessons with the girls, we chatted about the beauty of snowflakes, and how each one is so unique and so delicately created. Snowflakes begin to form when an extremely cold water freezes onto a dust particle in the sky. As the ice crystal falls to the ground, water vapour freezes onto the primary crystal, building and creating new crystals. The probability that two snow crystals or flakes will be exactly alike in molecular structure and appearance is minute, and to prove otherwise would be almost impossible. Each winter in Northern countries, when snow falls, scientists predict that about 1 septillion (a trillion trillion) snowflakes drop from the sky.

To demonstrate to the girls, I brought some paper and scissors for everyone, and we started cutting out our own snowflakes. No two of their snowflakes were even remotely alike, and we wondered at the greatness of God, thinking of how He created every one of us on earth, each human with their own look and personality. He made each of us uniquely different and special. We are all created in the image of God -Genesis 1:27. The beauty of our world lies in all our differences, our unique qualities, our cultural beliefs. As one of the Grade 6 girls put it, we all stare at the same night sky, looking at the same stars, but we all see different things.  On Friday we celebrate Heritage Day. This is a wonderful time to learn about all our different cultures and heritages, and to teach our children about respect and understanding differences. Even though we are all different, we all have one thing in common, we belong to God’s love.

Loving Father, who created all peoples in Your image, we thank You for this wonderful world of cultural richness. Enrich our lives by ever-widening circles of fellowship and show us Your presence in those who differ from us. Help us to understand Your love, which is made more perfect in our love for all your children.
Amen

“On Tuesday, the Primary School held their Heritage Day Assembly. The girls in Grade 5A dressed up in clothing that their heritage and gave short presentations telling us about some of the wonderful customs and food from their cultures. The Grade 7 girls also performed a choral verse “Homework and Excuses” by Ken Nesbitt and gave all the younger girls lots of interesting and exciting ideas on how to get away with not doing their homework.
