RELIGION

The first month of 2020 has come and gone. February is a special month. It is the shortest month of the year. Valentine’s day is on the 14th, and roses, chocolates and romantic cards are given to express our love and devotion to others. However, the deepest expression of love is more than roses, chocolates and romantic cards. It is remembering that Jesus died for us and for our salvation.
“God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3 :16
During the month of February, we also prepare for Ash Wednesday and the beginning of our Lenten journey. This is a time to embrace prayer and to teach our children the value of building a solid, loving relationship with our Lord.

CLAMBER CLUB MORNING

The Grade 1 girls were surprised with a visit from ‘Jog the Frog’ for a fun-filled Clamber Club morning on Friday 24 January. Sporting green ribbons in their hair,  they enjoyed dancing, stretching, climbing and sliding. Many thanks to Baby Steps 2 Assumption for inviting our Grade 1s. They had a ball!

LEGO

The Grade One and Two classes were very excited to unpack LEGO boxes this week. Our sincere gratitude is extended to Johannesburg East Rotary Club for their very generous donation of interactive Lego sets for the Primary Computer Centre. Your donation will go a long way towards helping us build the resources needed for the girls to fully experience all our IT curriculum has to offer in a fun-filled way.
We also sincerely thank Alistair and Marion Brown, former teachers of Assumption, who are members of Rotary and organised this wonderful surprise. Your assistance has continually played a key role in the success of projects at Assumption Convent and we look forward to your continued support.

GRADE 7 LEADERSHIP

The Grade 7 girls committed to the Leadership Development Programme when receiving their blue monitor badges at assembly on Tuesday.  Congratulations to all these girls and to the girls recognised as captains and vice-captains of sporting and cultural teams.

At our first ‘leadership tea’ on Wednesday, our head girl Genevieve Reid introduced the high school leadership team to the Grade 7 leadership group. While sharing delicious pizza slices and juices, the meeting was an opportunity for both leadership groups to talk about what they need to be able to support each other as they work towards their leadership goals this year.

OUTREACH GRADE 7 2020

Our Grade 7 Outreach Programme has now included a new Animal Welfare Organisation into our Outreach Portfolio namely AACL (Animal Ant- Cruelty League).  Our portfolio consists of:  SPCA Germiston Bedfordview, Lambano Children’s Village and Animal Anti-Cruelty League.  We hope to grow our portfolio over time.  Our eager Grade 7 group of leaders will be entering into a Literacy Programme with AACL.  Their PR lady Carren will be engaging with our pupils in a 10 minute Education slot followed by each Grade 7 pupil interacting with their very own cat/puppy – reading their selected novel to their chosen animal.  This is a brilliant way to improve their reading and at the same time learning and observing the various breeds of cats and dogs.  They will be presenting a report back on their findings in the form of a Power Point Presentation at our Assembly.   We encourage our pupils to have servant hearts.  Community Service forms an integral part of school life at Assumption Convent Primary.  We teach our pupils, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:35.  We are truly excited for the future of Outreach at Assumption Convent.  We will be requiring assistance from our school over the year in the form of donations.  We ask that ALL get involved and help where possible.  Your love and support is always greatly appreciated.

ALUMNI

Alumni, we want to hear from you.

We will be running a profile post and testimonial of a past pupil every week in our newsletter as well as Facebook and Twitter so please send us your info.
Our alumni serve a very important role within our community and our school.
We would like to know what our former pupils go on to do after they leave Assumption Convent School. Where our Alumni are, what they are doing, who they’ve become, and how Assumption Convent School helped prepare them for university, work and life.
The Alumni community is a fantastic network group where memories are shared and where you can reconnect with old friends.
Please share a few memories of what Assumption Convent meant to you (200 words or less). Please also e-mail a recent photo of yourself.
This year we will have a section dedicated to our Alumni in our annual school magazine.
Please send photos and share your news with us via email. Please send us updated contact details, especially email addresses, name changes etc.
Please send all correspondence to: marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za

Hoping to hear from you soon.

ADVERTS

AU PAIR

My name is Tamryn Peel, I was a Student at Assumption Convent and I matriculated in 2018.   I am looking for an au pair job, I’ve gained a lot of experience while working as an au pair in America for a year. I have grown and learnt a lot from this experience. My duties included driving the kids to and from school as well as extra mural activities, helping with homework, cooking, shopping if needed and entertaining or doing activities with them. I pride in the fact that I am very honest, reliable, assertive, responsible, loving and caring. I am also a very flexible person and I am able to adjust to many situations.   I look forward to meeting you!!
