WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE
After Mass last Friday, we held our Remembrance Day Service to remember all those who have died.. the soldiers and civilians in all wars and combat but also all our loved ones who have passed from this world. We prayed for peace in our hearts, homes, country and world. We prayed for those that have died, that Jesus would welcome them into His Kingdom. We prayed for those who suffer presently because of war and violence. We prayed for those who have lost loved ones. We remembered and honoured all those who offered their lives so we could enjoy freedom. We will remember them!

GRADE EIGHT TO ELEVEN ACADEMIC AWARDS CEREMONY 2019
The annual prize giving ceremony for Gr 8 to 11 was held on Thursday 7 November. Our guest of honour was Cassandra Duncan, a former pupil of Assumption, Wits MA graduate and an economist at National Treasury. Cassandra inspired all of our girls to believe in their dreams and to work hard to make them come true, as she has done. We also thank Mrs Mileder, Board of Governor Chair, for her encouraging words on how wonderfully prepared for university, Assumption girls are, as attested by remarks made at the Wits Top 100 dinner.
Our pupils are congratulated on their fine achievements, which are listed below. Unfortunately, we do not have space for all of the certificate winners, but they are also congratulated on their excellent achievements.

REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE

On 11 November, our principal, Neville Workman, and our head prefect, Genevieve Reid had the privilege of attending the annual Remembrance Day Service at Jeppe High School for Boys. This marks 101 years since the armistice was declared and the 1st World War finally came to an end. This is a very special occasion and one can literally feel more than 120 years of history of this extraordinary school. Each year, at the Remembrance day ceremony, the head master reads out the names of all the school teachers and past pupils who have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in battle for their country, South Africa. A very emotional ceremony is brought to a conclusion with the laying of wreaths whilst a Jeppe piper plays the haunting lament, “The Flowers of the Forrest.”
Mr Neville Workman
CAROL SERVICE – TOY AND STATIONERY COLLECTION
We are fast approaching the end of the year and will soon be holding our Carol Service. Two boxes will be placed in the Hall at the carol service. One box is for toys and the other for stationery. Please remember to bring items for these boxes. The items collected will be given to less fortunate pupils.
SHOE COLLECTION
Over the past few years some of the pupils in the High school have donated their school shoes to “Sole to Sole” at the end of the year. These shoes are given to pupils who do not have school shoes. If you are willing to donate your child’s school shoes at the end of the year, please place them in the box in the canteen. Your donations will be much appreciated.
Mrs Watkins
CAROL SERVICE
The theme for this year’s Carol Service is different Christmas traditions from around the world. If your nationality/culture has a Christmas tradition, Christmas song or carol, and/or traditional food, drink, or festivities, please email me at rstewardson@assumptionconvent.co.za. I would like to include as many different traditions as possible with songs and carols in as many languages as I can find. We will end the Carol Service with everyone singing a special version of The 12 Days of Christmas.

ALUMNI

Alumni, we want to hear from you..
We will be running a profile post and testimonial of a past pupil every week in our newsletter as well as Facebook and Twitter so please send us your info.
Our alumni serve a very important role within our community and our school.
We would like to know what our former pupils go on to do after they leave Assumption Convent School. Where our Alumni are, what they are doing, who they’ve become, and how Assumption Convent School helped prepare them for university, work and life. The Alumni community is a fantastic network group where memories are shared and where you can reconnect with old friends.
Please share a few memories of what Assumption Convent meant to you (200 words or less). Please also e-mail a recent photo of yourself.
This year we will have a section dedicated to our Alumni in our annual school magazine.
Please send photos and share your news with us via email. Please send us updated contact details, especially email addresses, name changes etc.
Please send all correspondence to: marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za
Hoping to hear from you soon.

"Assumption Convent taught me to believe in myself and others. I was empowered with the skills to work diligently on my own or in a group. My Family has always believed in tenacity, compassion, empathy, kindness and loyalty, Assumption Convent reinforced all these values and provided role models throughout my schooling career. Armed with an unwavering belief in my ability to achieve my dreams, I have qualified from UJ with a B Optom degree and am currently working as an Optometrist".

"Assumption Convent School will always hold a very special place in my heart. It is here that I began my spiritual journey and learnt to face the world with confidence and joy.
