MY QUESTION FOR GOD

The Grade 10s have been presenting a research project this week. They had to think of a question that they had for God, research, and present back to the class what answers they found. It has been fascinating listening to all of their presentations. Their questions range from.. “why do we suffer”, to “why should I pray” to “what am I doing wrong” to “why do people die young”.  The girls curiosity and openness is beautiful and their answers moving. It is evident that many of them have really had their questions answered and their hearts settled. What an awesome journey of discovery life is and how gratifying it is when we learn more about ourselves and the Lord and his love and plan fr each of us.

MASS ON FRIDAY

Please note that the girls will finish at 14h00 on Fridays except for the following Fridays.  On these Fridays we will have mass in the morning and the girls will finish at 14h30.

GENERAL

THE CRUCIBLE

A few weeks ago,  Assumption Convent School put on the Crucible by Arthur Miller.  On special occasions like this, I am reminded that authentic education is so much more than just sums and spelling. It is in the school’s cultural and sporting activities that profound and life changing learning takes place and the Crucible is no exception. In the months, days and hours that our girls have worked so closely with the boys from St Benedict’s,  they have grown in so many ways, they have made new friendships and have created beautiful memories and experiences that will last a life time. The themes  explored in this extraordinary play challenge  us and take us out of our comfort zone.  Here we are engaging with  perennial truths like honour, integrity and loyalty.

Below, I have included some of the messages received.

Brother Michael Burke – Musician and Director
Congratulations to all concerned, and indeed to the whole school, on the excellent quality of your production of THE CRUCIBLE. It was very well cast, played with conviction and skill, and its impact was reinforced by an unflagging pace - something that takes enormous effort and discipline to achieve. The standard of the production is really something to be proud of, and I salute Tracey Human  and her team for their fine work. In the 60 years that have passed since first produced, I think this play has become recognised as a classic of timeless value. What a wonderful choice for a school to put on - and well done on making that quiet connection to a recent contemporary parallel in our own country.

Sister Janine Coleman – Past Principal of Assumption Convent School and School Trust
Thank you for a most delightful and thought provoking evening.   We thoroughly enjoyed everything and were made to feel very welcome.
The talent and hard work of both staff and pupils is amazing.

Mrs Belinda Damhuis – Principal of Holy Rosary High School
Thank you so much for the invitation to attend The Crucible. What a spectacular event. The acting was excellent, the sound and lighting was 100% appropriate  and  the sets were absolutely perfect. You can be very proud of a wonderful evening.

Mr Christopher Reed – Past Principal of Assumption Convent Primary School and current Education Officer for the Catholic Schools’ Trust
I am always incredibly humbled when I am invited to anything at Assumption. Tonight, I am not humbled, but incredibly honoured that I was invited to attend such an AMAZING production.  I could not wait to thank you for the honour of being invited to attend.  I am not a person who really gets into a play, but this had me absolutely riveted.  Please congratulate the girls and boys who were part of this, and Ms Human for her incredible work.

St. Stithians Regatta – Saturday 06 October 2018

The second senior regatta of the season, took place on an extremely hot Saturday.  The water was beautiful and calm to start with, but after lunch the wind picked up.  The girls recorded improved times from the first regatta, which proves that the sacrifice of extra training at Roodeplaat on Sundays, is paying off.

The Opens were presented with a new tri suit – white with blue stars.

KIRSTEN BELOVAY - MATRIC - 2011

After matriculating in 2011, I went onto complete a BSc degree in Computer Science and Informatics. I am currently working as a Junior Java Developer. My faith was strengthened during my 5 years at Assumption Convent. Finding a career path is hard, but Assumption Convent helped me and for that I am truly grateful. The teachers and the general environment were most welcoming and encouraging in helping one to reach one's true potential. Assumption Convent taught me the importance of self-belief and confidence.
