STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The Stations of the Cross are a special devotional prayer to help us to recall the tremendous love of Jesus Christ as He suffered and died for our salvation.
For the past week, girls from Grade 3-7 have been learning how to pray at each Station.
At the start of each prayer journey, we recite:
Dear Heavenly Father, we reflect on Your Son’s way of the cross and we ask You to please open our ears, minds and hearts to Your Presence. Please lead us to Your Son’s Cross, please lead us to your love, please lead us to salvation.
Amen

FOUNDATION PHASE CONCERT - OUT OF AFRICA

Photo Link: www.assumptionconvent.co.za/gallery/photoalbums.aspx?Albumid=410

The Foundation Phase concert "Out in Africa" was a great success on Thursday and Friday. Our young performers acted and sang with enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed their parts in the show.

Mrs Knipe

On Thursday 22 March and Friday 23 March our Grade 1, 2 and 3 girls took part in performing in this year’s concert Out in Africa.  The many hours of rehearsals, organising costumes and make up as well as collaborating as a phase proved most rewarding as the energy and atmosphere was felt at each performance.  Each character came alive as the girls played their parts remembering their cue’s, words and actions.
Many thanks to Mrs Szymczak for writing the script and for organising such original head pieces and costumes. Thank you to all those who did their part ‘behind the scenes’, from the PTA, administration and ground staff. Thank you to parents, grandparents and guests who supported the production by attending the performances.
To our Foundation Phase members of staff, Mrs Brown, teacher Christi, Mrs Moore, Mrs Sheerin, Ms Faulha and Mrs McCormack, your dedication and commitment have not gone unnoticed.
Well done to all!

Mrs McCormack

EASTER EGG COLLECTION

The Grade 7 girls packing the eggs into the school mini bus to be delivered to Fairways Primary

Every year the Johannesburg Mini Council has an Easter egg collection in a number of schools around Johannesburg. These eggs are distributed to approximately 170 charities around Gauteng.
The Mini-Council Easter Egg Collection at Assumption Convent went phenomenally well this year. We, the councillors, set out to break the school record of 12 000 eggs. We are so happy to announce that we have managed to break this record easily, collecting 16 719 eggs! Each and every girl who donated Easter eggs made this dream a reality we really could not have done it without you.
For the first time, the high school girls participated in the collection and brought in 1 411 eggs. We would like to thank Amy Weinerlein for all her help in encouraging the high school.
We would also like to thank Mrs De Klerk for the use of her storeroom to store the eggs and Mrs Swanepoel for giving us the time to collect eggs. Without the support of these teachers and all the Assumption girls this collection would not have been possible. So once again, thank you!!
Winners of the Easter Egg Collection will be announced once the final numbers have been tallied.

DID YOU KNOW?

Baker Raffaele Esposito from Naples is given credit for creating the first pizza pie to honour the Queen consort of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, in June 1889. He created the "Pizza Margherita", garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, to represent the national colours of Italy. The first known pizza shop opened in Port Alba in Naples and is still there today.
So where do our pizzas come from? Debonair’s, Romans, Pizza Hut???
If you are lucky enough to eat pizza over the next few weeks, Mrs de Rijk would really appreciate it if you would bring her your empty boxes for an art project next term.

RUNNING FOR CHARITY

This year, 2018, I am running my 10th Comrades Ultra Marathon on the 10th June 2018. To celebrate this, I have registered to run for charity. I have selected CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa) and joined the COWS. The COWS are the fund raising arm of the CHOC foundation. This arm started out in 2008 and since then has grown into a world renowned group of regular people that take on events such as the 94.7 Cycle race, the Iron Man, and the Comrades Marathon. Today I am proud to be one of those COWS that will help CHOC celebrate 10 years.
So, how can you help: I am looking for donations and support. By clicking on the below you will be taken to the Comrades Marathon website, where you are able to make a donation which is linked to my running profile. It will only take 3 minutes of your time but will add a lifetime to the patients, doctors, nurses and families that are affected by cancer.
You can log on to the Comrades Home page: Click on Charities Tab and then Race 4 Charity. This will take you to the runner profile page. Search for my name, view profile and then click on Make a donation. Thank you for taking the time. http://www.comrades.com/charities/race-4-charity

Quickest way: is to click on the below link. This will take you directly to my profile.  Here you will also be able to leave a message of encouragement or a note of remembrance for a loved one.
