COMARADES MARATHON
GOOD LUCK TO OUR COMRADES MARATHON RUNNERS
Our very best wishers go with all those who will be running the ‘uphill on Sunday.’ We do hope your run goes well and that it is a memorable occasion. Our thoughts and special wishes go to Assumption mom Hazel Moller. Hazel is again attempting to run from Johannesburg to Durban over 9 consecutive days, arriving in time to then complete the Comrades on Sunday! Each year, Hazel dedicates this gruelling run to animals in distress. Her fundraising efforts have raised hundreds of thousands of Rands for this excellent cause.

Hazel Möller (left) and Dina do Couto (part of the Ten10 team and a fellow Bedfordview Athletics Club runner) have some fun out on a run.

HIGH SCHOOL
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

The High School celebrated Catholic Schools Week last week. Our pupils wore their school uniforms to Mass over the weekend and representatives read a letter to the parish about what being in a Catholic School means. Then on Wednesday a number of the pupils and staff from the Primary and High school joined St Benedict’s for a prayer pilgrimage to Schoenstatt Shrine. We prayed the Rosary as we walked to and from the Shrine and had an opportunity to pray in the chapel at the shrine and sing some beautiful Praise and Worship songs together. We prayed for our schools, for our country and for our own intentions. It was a beautiful event and so special to be united to our brother and sister schools in prayer on the perfectly fitting feast day of Our Lady Help of Christians!

On Wednesday 31 May, musicians from Grade 2 through to Matric gathered for a concert of all their wonderful. The concert featured the Junior Primary, Senior Primary, and High School Choirs, Grade 6, Grade 7, and High School Marimba Bands, School Orchestra, and three of Assumption Convent’s first ever Matric Music students, Donique Mitchell, Chloe Wittstock, and Marilyn Cilengi. The concert was concluded by all three choirs singing together. Our special guest for the evening was Mrs Jeanette Wessels, who, as Miss Jeanette Cleever, attended Assumption Convent between 1948 and 1950. Mrs Wessels enjoyed the concert thoroughly and was delighted to return to her old school. The standard of performances was extremely high from all the girls and my thanks go to Miss Saunders, Mrs Szymczak, Mr Sheehan, and Mrs Smythe for preparing the performances. Thanks also to Mrs Moore, Mrs Sheerin, Mrs McCormack, Miss Faulha, Mrs Elliot, and Mrs van Wyk for assisting with the Primary School girls while they were off-stage, Mrs Knipe and Mrs Sousa for the photographs and videos, and to the PTA for their ever-amazing prego rolls!

ACS FAMILY RECIPE BOOK
This year as a Debs fundraiser, which supports local charities, we are wanting to compile an Assumption Convent family recipe book.
The idea is to put together favourite recipes contributed by Assumption families to create a recipe book unique to our school. The recipe book will be printed on high quality paper and will be beautifully bound and decorated with photographs of our school. Anyone who contributes will have their daughters name acknowledged with their recipe.
We would like to ask for your assistance with this project. If you have a favourite recipe (soup, bread, salad, dessert, meat, chicken, vegetarian, fish etc.) that you are willing to contribute please complete the attached form and return to the class teacher.
Your assistance is highly appreciated.
