PRIMARY SCHOOL

STATION OF THE CROSS

The Grade 3 – 7 girls all attended Stations of the Cross this week in our school Chapel. The girls participated with quiet respect and prayerfulness. Each grade attended at a different time, and the readings and prayers were aimed at the different age groups. As the girls left the Chapel, they had a deeper understanding of how much our Lord loves us, and that even though Jesus had to make this difficult journey carrying His cross, there is hope and joy in His glorious rising on Easter Sunday.

CHARLIE - MAJOR PRODUCTION

www.assumptionconvent.co.za/gallery/photoalbums.aspx?Albumid=349

Assumption Convent Primary School recently presented their major production of  'Charlie', based on the book of  'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl.  All girls from grade 4 to 7, as well as the St Benedict's Drama Club, took part in the show and a great time was had by all.  The leads impressed the audience with their dramatic portrayals of their characters, while the Oompa Loompas, Lollipop Dancers, Candy sellers and children, and the miniature squirrels entertained the crowds with their energetic singing and dancing.  Well done to the cast and crew for a wonderful performance!

TOP AND TAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRS

During the last week of April we were finally able to purchase a wheelchair, for use in our school, with the funds raised through our “Tops & Tags” collection.
All tags go towards ‘The Sweethearts foundation’ who have to date provided 208 wheelchairs, some custom made, to people in need. The use of these wheelchairs has impacted hugely on the quality of the lives of the recipients.
With the help of Mr Swanepoel and Ennocent all our bottle tops are taken to a local recycling company. The funds generated from the bottle tops have been used to purchase a wheelchair for use in our school. The remainder and future funds generated by our ‘Tops Collection’ will be going towards various outreach projects.
Thank you to everyone who supports our tops and tags collection. Not only are we contributing to a greener world but through our recycling we are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Keep collecting: We are making a difference 1 top or tag at a time!

HAPPY EASTER

The Grade 4 classes made pom-pom bunnies and chickens during art. The bunnies and the chickens symbolise ‘New life in Christ.’
Amidst all ‘the chocolate eating’ let us not forget the reason for Easter.

GRADE 3 & 4 ART CLUB

Our beautiful, funky, big birds are completed.
During the 1st term the Grade 3 & 4 Art Club has worked on creating these amazing birds using a variety of mediums. We have exercised our hands by cutting the different parts of the birds from cardboard. A variety of mediums, including paint, oil pastels, bling, coloured paper, wax crayons and feathers have been used to add colour.
We are very proud of our BIG, BEAUTIFUL, FUNKY BIRDS!

 ST ANDREW'S NETBALL FESTIVAL

Assumption Convent was privileged to be able to participate in the St Andrews Festival once again this year.  There were 32 schools who participated in the festival; the schools were divided into 4 pools of 8 schools.  Assumption came 2nd in their pool, resulting in them playing in the Championship Section.  Other schools competing in the Championships were, Edenvale High, St Dunstan’s, Kingsridge, Eunice, Krugersdorp, Pretoria Girls High, TWC.  Overall Assumption came 6th out of 32 schools that took part in the festival.  This is a very tough four day Festival, but the Assumption girls played to the best of their ability and enjoyed every minute of the Festival.  We would like to congratulate all our girls for this achievement.  We are very proud of each and every one of them. Congratulations to Marilyn Cilengi for being selected as the best tournament player for the second year in a row.

ACS FAMILY RECIPE BOOK

This year as a Debs fundraiser, which supports local charities, we are wanting to compile an Assumption Convent family recipe book.
The idea is to put together favourite recipes contributed by Assumption families to create a recipe book unique to our school. The recipe book will be printed on high quality paper and will be beautifully bound and decorated with photographs of our school. Anyone who contributes will have their daughters name acknowledged with their recipe.
We would like to ask for your assistance with this project. If you have a favourite recipe (soup, bread, salad, dessert, meat, chicken, vegetarian, fish etc.) that you are willing to contribute please complete the attached form and return to the class teacher by the 7th of April 2017.
Your assistance is highly appreciated.
