Condolences
Our sincere condolences are with the Madihlaba (Boipelo) family who has lost a close family member.
Debating
A win against Marist Brothers
Our Grade 10 debating girls competed against Marist Brothers College, last week. It was a friendly debate and the motion was: “This house regrets that South Africa made use of the TRC instead of prosecuting the perpetrators of crimes committed during apartheid.” Assumption opposed the motion and we won the debate. Congratulations go to Tsion Girma, Rachel-Lee Audier, Juliet Markantonatos, Nthabiseng Tsotetsi and Sarah Roberts.
Debating Workshops
Two workshops will be held in early October. Dates still need to be finalised, so watch this space. Coaches from Wits Debating will come to share their expertise with us. (Wits beat Harvard at the finals, so this coaching will be world class).
Next year we’d like to field two teams in the SACEE league and there are many spaces available, so newcomers are very welcome – even beginners. Please put your names down with Mrs Markantonatos as soon as the dates become available.

Learn your Faith – the Catechism in 40 sessions
We are delighted to announce that we will be starting a Faith Formation Course for the parents and teachers of Assumption Convent.
The course will run every Thursday from 6 to7pm in the mini-hall starting on the 2nd of October 2014 - that’s next Thursday!
Fr Thomas Gibson will be giving the course to help us to grow in knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith, so we can live it out more fruitfully in our daily lives.
The first topic is THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
All are welcome. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, please contact me at the school.

Buy a Brick Campaign fund latest update
Thank you to all the families below for their generous donations! Your support makes a huge difference.
To date R125 140.95 has been received by the fund. All donors will be eligible for tax relief in terms of the current legislation and will receive a section 18a tax certificate. Donations will also be suitably acknowledged on a role of honour, which will be on permanent display in our new hall. These will placed in categories; (bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond).
This fund will not be simply absorbed into capital costs but rather used for identified projects so that donors will be aware of where their money has been invested. We have bought a baby grand piano, and a beautifully restored ‘Public Works Department’ clock originally manufactured in 1945. We are also looking at purchasing a new lectern, school crest, crucifix, piano dust cover and seating for the hall.
The ‘Buy a Brick Campaign’ will continue up until the hall has been completed and furnished. Please visit our gallery for the latest photos:
