Major Production
Disney’s High School Musical, a teen romance with more than a little truth about the inner workings of a school, was performed at St Benedict’s College from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 September. Directed by Miss Gololo and Mr Stewardson, the show combined 36 pupils from Assumption Convent, Holy Rosary and St Benedict’s with a live band of six superb musicians and a large backstage team to produce a spectacular showcase of Music, Drama and Dance. Surviving the first – and extremely violent – first storm of the season, audiences were taken on a journey of blossoming teen love, with all its inevitable difficulties, surrounded by the ever-present machinations of conniving friends and squabbling teachers, and left, if not reminded of their own school days, certainly singing the catchy tunes which Disney has made popular.
Catholic Schools’ Choir Festival
On Thursday 25 October the High School Choir and a combined Grade 1-5 choir travelled to Holy Rosary for the Catholic Schools’ Choir Festival. The Primary School choir were selected to lead the National Anthem which they followed with performances of Jennie Jenkins and Swinging on a Star. The High School Choir followed with Rumour has it/Someone like you and To the Mothers in Brazil. 12 schools attended and all the participants joined at the end to sing Sin Nje Nje Nje and Let there be peace on earth. The festival is always a very enjoyable morning and the choirs are already looking forward to next year.

Buy a Brick Campaign fund latest update
Thank you to all the families below for their generous donations! Your support makes a huge difference.
To date R130 140.95 has been received by the fund. All donors will be eligible for tax relief in terms of the current legislation and will receive a section 18a tax certificate. Donations will also be suitably acknowledged on a role of honour, which will be on permanent display in our new hall. These will placed in categories; (bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond).
This fund will not be simply absorbed into capital costs but rather used for identified projects so that donors will be aware of where their money has been invested. We have bought a baby grand piano, and a beautifully restored ‘Public Works Department’ clock originally manufactured in 1945. We are also looking at purchasing a new lectern, school crest, crucifix, piano dust cover and seating for the hall.
The ‘Buy a Brick Campaign’ will continue up until the hall has been completed and furnished. Please visit our gallery for the latest photos:

Our girls looked beautiful in their lovely dresses and they made us proud as they took part in the Celebration of the Mass.
Thank you to Father Tony for a joyous and meaningful service, to Mrs Zambon for reading out the communicants’ names when the certificates were presented and to Mr Stewardson and the choir for the music and singing, as well as the Grade 3 girls who joined them.
Congratulations to the parents of the First Holy Communicants and to the Communicants themselves. May you always stay close to Jesus as you are now.

Tennis
On Tuesday the 30th of September the High School tennis ‘A and ‘B team played away against Hoër Skool Randburg. Each couple played 3 matches of 7 games each. Unfortunately both of our teams were beaten. The A’s lost 42 - 21 and the B’s lost 47 – 16. If we can fight that much harder for just one extra game in each match then we would close the gap significantly to become solid contenders.
Next match at home vs St Teresa’s
