GOLF DAY 2021

Dear Assumption Parents
We are very excited to get the ball rolling with our PTA Golf Day 2021.
We will be hosting the event at Glendower golf club this year on 5 November 2021. We are extremely excited about this as our golf day could not happen in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic and we would really like to make this year's day a big success. Please share this event advert with family and friends we would be very grateful. Booking forms are available from jgoosen@assumptionconvent.co.za and marketing@assumptionconvent.co.za. Booking forms are also uploaded on our school App.
Hole sponsorships are available for R1500 per hole. For this, you will be able to set up a stall on the day, we will still get more detail from the course on what is allowed to be handed out. You will also get your name on our sponsor board that is displayed in the school hall for the next year.
We are also in need of prize donations, any prizes are welcome, some ideas are: small kitchen appliances, beauty products, gift vouchers and DIY tools. All prizes, no matter how big or small will be appreciated.
We need everyone’s help in making this Golf Day a success.
Hope to see you on the course.

Season of Creation: 7 Lessons from Scripture about the Earth and Caring for It
The Bible can provide us with guidance on what God has to say about our duty as stewards of the earth and everything God created to inhabit it. God's good vision for the care of the earth has been marred by humans in many ways, hopefully, we can turn to scripture to re-inspire us to play our role in caring for God’s amazing Creation
God gives us the task of being stewards of the earth
In Genesis, God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to “tend and watch over it” (Genesis 2:15). God of course is capable of caring for the earth He Created but it is significant that the task is assigned to people.
God gave people authority over creation
Humans are God's special creation, God gives us the task of using our minds, bodies, and resources to be good leaders of the rest of Creation. "Then God said, 'Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground'" (Genesis 1:26).
The earth needs a Sabbath rest, just like we do
All of God's Creation was made with the need to breathe, to rest. Even the very ground we walk on needs time to refresh and replenish its ability to produce good things. The Bible speaks of this in Leviticus when God tells the people of Israel, "When you have entered the land I am giving you, the land itself must observe a Sabbath rest before the Lord every seventh year. (Lev 25:2-4)
God wants us to enjoy Creation, not defile it
God grants us dominion over Creation and so we have a right to use what we need from the earth. In Jeremiah, God says, "I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable" (2:7). This is a warning to us to use the earth well and to treat it as a valuable mark of God's Creation and provision, rather than as a thing to waste and defile.
Jesus uses Creation to remind us of God’s truth
In Matthew 6:26 Jesus tells His followers, "Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?" God often uses Creation to remind us of important Truths. Creation complements God’s word so well for example in Isaiah 1:18 “though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool”
The earth is a showcase of God’s existence
From the vast ocean to the stunning mountain ranges to the intricacies of an ecosystem, the whole earth is a canvas that proclaims the existence of a Creator. The Apostle Paul writes about this in Romans 1:20: "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—God’s eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God."
We are stewards of the earth for a limited time
As caretakers of the earth, we are reminded that God has given us this task for a limited time. One day God will "create new heavens and a new earth" (Isaiah 65:17). But for now, and especially in this Season of Creation, let us do all within our power to care well for this amazing planet God created and entrusted us to steward.

GRADE 8 MASS - 17 SEPTEMBER
This morning Fr Andrew welcomed the Grade 8 girls to Mass in Blessed Sacrament parish church. This was a special morning as it was their first Mass in the Church this year.
In his homily Fr Andrew challenged us to examine our friendships and family relationships against the qualities in the 1st Reading of the Mass. Father encouraged us not to attempt everything all at once, but to rather work on one quality at a time, and that will help us bring positive change into our lives.
This morning Mass was a lovely opportunity for our Grade 8s to be the praying body for our school, and to spend time with God.

MOVING FORWARD
During the holidays, my mother-in-law gave me a beautiful book to read, titled “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse,” by Charles Mackesy, who simply states that the book is for anyone from eight years old to eighty, and is about living courageously with more kindness for yourself and for others. Each page, beautifully illustrated, has a simple lesson, with the characters, the boy, mole, fox, and horse teaching each other as they embark on a journey. There was one quote that stuck with me, when the horse said, “Sometimes just getting up and carrying on is brave and magnificent.”
This year has been very challenging and for many of our Assumption families, there has been heartache, loss, financial difficulties, and relationship worries. In class we often discuss how difficulties and challenges are like speed bumps in the road, they will slow you down and even stop you, but they cannot stop you from moving forward. Bear Grylls, survivalist, author, and television personality, makes it very clear when he says, “It is only when we get kicked down that we see what we are made of. It’s easy to be positive when everything is going well, but the heart of all great endeavors is the ability to stagger back to our feet and keep moving forward, however grim it gets.”

Resilience is such an important lesson for us to be teaching our children. Learning to be able to move forward after someone has hurt your feelings, said something nasty, blocked you on a WhatsApp group or excluded you from a social group are all difficulties many of our girl’s face. These are not pleasant lessons, but they can help our children develop and grow and be ready to handle all the challenges that life will throw at them. There is a lovely quote that says, “The Bible never once says figure it out, but over and over again says, TRUST GOD.” Trust in our Father, build a solid relationship with Him, but also trust in yourself, so that when the hard times come, you can get up from that fall, and carry on, which is brave and magnificent. As we see in Scripture, God loves His children, but that does not mean His children won’t go through trials.
Joshua 1:9 I repeat, be strong and brave! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic, for I, the LORD your God, am with you in all you do.

Loving Father
Please help me to rise above my challenges
To be patient yet resilient in affliction
To be inspired and to inspire others.
Amen
